Insomniacs Ball Preview: The Infadels

Ever had that situation? Alone, unable to sleep in the middle of the night...wishing there was something really, really cool you could be doing instead of just lying there counting ceiling tiles. Well fear not music lovers your prayers have been answered as The Insomniacs Ball is back and promising you a surging night of passion and ruin! Featuring turns from Infadels, Bear Hands, Wave Machines, Everything Everything and epic DJ sets from the likes of Plugs, The Cocknbullkid and Late Of The Pier those insomniacs promise to keep you partying until dawn this weekend. In anticipation of this event Spoonfed grabbed a few words with Bnann, lead singer of Infadels.

Infadels were formed back in 2003 and have built up a devotional following for their frenetic live shows and the two albums they have released on Wall Of Sound records. Fusing rock and electronic the band have toured the world and recently began working on their third album, a highly anticipated follow  up to 2008's Universe In Reverse.

'The whole point of doing this show is to try new material for our UK fans', begins Bnann when contemplating Insomniacs Ball. 'We've just got done with a tour of the Netherlands where we tried out some of the new material. But there's going to be a lot of stuff going on on Friday night. It's going to be a new record heavy set with 3 or 4 hits thrown in.'  It's a prospect that is sure to wet appetites of fans everywhere. In terms of musical direction rumors have been abound that the band have returned to the more electronic aspects of their first record. 'I think that's probably true, there's more electronic elements to it, so that's like what we were doing on the first record. But there's definitely a better song structure, so we are taking all of the badass song writing from the second album, adding the electronic elements from the first album and just taking it to the next level. It kicks ass.' Enthuses Bnann.

The new material will be the first chance that UK fans have had to satisfy their itch for unheard Infadel sounds since the band made available a free version of their take on Eurythmics favorite
'Sweet Dreams'. 'We do a load of covers all the time, we actually rehearsed up 'Rolex', but we were pipped to the post by Hot Chip for doing that cover, that's cool though we know those guys, and we also do a mean 'Suffragette City', but in the end we chose 'Sweet Dreams' as we've been doing that live and we wanted to put out a version that we knew was good for fans rather than hearing something that had been put up as a third hand bootleg. It's funny though, a friend of mine actually drums for Annie Lennox and he says that she hates cover versions of any of her stuff, so I guess we won't be asking for her thoughts anytime. But we just love all that stuff.'

Over the course of the recent tour of the Netherlands the boys have been warming up 2 new songs. 'Well the album is actually going to be called 'The future of the Gravity Boy', so we've been playing that song as well as one called 'We Are Ghosts' both of those have been going off, so we are really excited about Insomniacs. It should be immense'

All o which bodes incredibly well for a scintillating finale to Insomniacs Ball this weekend. With an epic support line up and hot guest DJs ready to keep you pumping to the break of dawn it would be midsummer madness to miss out. Plus, you can never have too much practice staying up all night with Glasto fast approaching!
