Kate Weir takes a look at what's on offer at Madame Jojo's this Friday.

Magic of the Paul Daniels or children’s party variety is usually a bit on the rubbish side, and at the other end of the spectrum, the only ‘astounding’ thing about David Blaine’s feats of slight endurance is how tedious they are.
Sadly, the days of magic being, well, magic have disappeared like an elephant behind some mirrors, whilst a girl dressed in a sequinned bra does the Charleston to distract you. So how do you make magic just that little bit more modern, cool and accessible? You add a bit of ‘how’s your father’ to it, that’s how.
Madame Jojo’s Magic Night isn’t your average ‘rabbit out of a hat’ affair: it’s a sexed-up, glitz-bombed extravanganza where the only magical tits are safely enclosed in some frilly corsets, although you still may end up mistaking one for Paul Daniels.
This month’s magic night sees the club doing things Vegas style, with mind-reading card tricks worthy of Rain Man, singing showgirls sawn into slices (itself a marvel of alliteration), paintertainment (whatever that may be). And of course, there's Elvis, though tantalisingly billed as ‘unlike you’ve ever seen him before’. You may know what’s going on behind the tricks, but what’s going on up front will be so glam and good looking that in no time at all you’ll be screaming Abracadabra like a sugar-fuelled toddler.
