London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week hits the capital again this year. From 19-23 February models will don an enviable array of outfits, elongate their never-ending limbs and begin the bi-annual saunter down the catwalk, showcasing Autumn/Winter 2010 collections for the delectation of fashion-hungry audiences. As always, the likes of Aquascutum, Mulberry and other behemoths of British fashion heritage parade their clobber alongside the likes of some of the edgiest, up-and-coming designers to grace the London fashion scene.

The fifty or so catwalk shows on the official schedule are joined by a further 45 off-schedule shows and an exhibition at Somerset House, displaying over 100 ready-to-wear and accessories designers. The proceedings get under way on Friday 19th with a jam-packed programme of runs, that encompasses everything from Eun Jeong's feminine tailoring to the androgynous, sharp silhouettes and sumptuous draping of design duo Aminaka Wilmont.

Moving through the weekend, eclectic eccentricity will be on offer courtesy of House of Holland and the Fashion East runway show, which promises to deliver only the boldest and the bravest of emerging designers, eagerly putting their first fashion feet forward. And as the weekend draws to a close, the relaxed glamour of Betty Jackson on Sunday is counterbalanced by a sprinkling of that famous Vivienne Westward anarchy.

Monday and Tuesday's line-up is set to titillate the taste buds of the fashion-forward, with offerings from the likes of Erdem and Christopher Kane, while the catwalk collection by Central Saint Martin's fashion graduates is a tried and tested way to spot some of the freshest and most innovative design talent going. Wednesday is a rather more masculine affair, as the menswear designers step up for their turn in the limelight. Gorgeous gamins don the wears of E. Tautz, the tailors of Churchill; whilst A Child of the Jago (a label created by the son of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McClaren) display some fabulous east London irreverence with alt-chic vintage-inspired pieces.

This year, then, there's the characteristic mix of the old and the new, rubbing shoulders in celebration of one of the highlights in the fashion calendar.
