The Old Queen's Head celebrate our blistering DIY culture.

The Old Queen's Head can always be relied on to fill your bank holiday weekend with brilliant events, and this all-dayer strikes a definite chord.

Our DIY scene is burgeoning: replacing fanzines and homemade recordings of the indie '80s, blogs and MP3s have revolutionised the way we ingest, reflect and deliver music. Today, anyone can publish their thoughts online or transmit their music to an audience of the millions globally linked. This new, thrilling culture is something we all appreciate and benefit from, not least because the immediacy allows for truth and genuine opinion to be given a platform away from any vested interests.

So this event is exciting. They'll be showcasing the most relevant labels and blogs of today - alongside appearances from labels who paved the way for this scene many years ago. There'll also, of course, be a killer line-up of fresh live acts all from a DIY back round.

Headlining is Thomas Tantrum – their self-released album propelled them to tour the world with bands such as Glasvegas. Now on the verge of releasing their next album, they are currently on tour with Band Of Skulls.

Also playing live are Matthew and The Atlas who recently supported Mumford and Sons plus Border Surrender, Lucky Soul, Luke Leighfield and Pete Lyons.

Label-wise a number of them are hosting stalls throughout the day – including the godfathers of independent music, Sub Pop, who brought world releases from Nirvana, Foals and CSS. Chess Club Records will be there too – their acts include Peggy Sue, White Lies and Mumford and Sons. Other labels include Communion, Tape Club Recordings, Got Got Need and more.

The live acts will be indispersed with DJs from a host of club nights including Bloody Awful Poetry, Oh! Inverted Word, For Folks Sake, Ear Music and more.

It's all for FREE. Seriously now...

Do You DIY? is on May 31st from 12pm - 12am. Check out The Old Queen's Head blog to find out more.
