G20 Summit

Unless you've been hiding in a bunker for the last month, you'll know that the G20 Summit occurs this week at the EXCEL Centre in London. The G20 refers to a group of twenty finance ministers and central bank governers from 20 economies; 19 of the world's largest economies plus the European Union. It is a forum for cooperation and consultation on all matters pertaining to the international financial system.

The G20 Summit has become a focal point for the bubbling cauldron of global discontent. This week - especially Wednesday 1st (Financial Fools Day) and Thursday 2nd -  is to be one of the most exciting, turbulent and unpredictable few days of our times as an unknowable mass of protesters converge at various locations throughout London.

A huge range of views are to be expressed by a variety of political groups at a range of eventful actions.

Climate Camp are a group who take action on climate change – most famously at Heathrow Airport – and are camping outside the Bank of England. G20 Meltdown are leading carnival parades to converge on the Bank of England. Anti-War groups will gather at the US Embassy for the Jobs Not Bombs demonstration. A giant game of monopoly will be played at the Stock Exchange.

Other groups involved in this week's action include; Put People First, CND, Stop The War, The Palestine Solidarity Campaign, The British Muslim Initiative, feminists, anti-capitalists and numerous other groups will unite on mass - seizing the day to express their discontent.

There are so many issues at play in today's world. Vast inequality, political disenfranchisement, global recession, corrupt governments, accelerated climate change, class divide, unaccountable banks. This weeks action looks set to be a monumental kick back at the powers that be and the capitalist system.
