Last Ever Twisted Disco

Last Ever Twisted Disco

Friday night's 'Last Ever' Twisted Disco at The Cross was another in the lengthy queue of 'last ever' events populating the clubs calendar before the wrecker's ball takes its revenge on New Years Day. For the occasion, Twisted Disco joined forces with a brand new night called Flytrap - a promotion headed up by one DJ by the name of Formless.

Twisted Disco is the where the darker side of house is explored. It's a night where the generic, ubiquitous funky house is shelved, and DJs are free to hammer all those tracks that only creep out of the shadows in the wee small hours. Dark, dirty, twisted house music.

Considering the hyperactive bigging-up of all these 'last ever' parties, the cool arches of The Cross were surprisingly unpopulated. Twisted DJ’s dominated the Soundbox, leaving Flytrap to rock the terrace.

And rock it they did. DJ Formless is relatively new on the circuit. He made people sit up and listen when he did a live mix on MoS radio and his new venture Flytrap is hitting clubland at the perfect moment – when everything has been shaken up and the room for freshness materialises as the demolition dust settles. He played a techy, progressive electro house set, which perfectly captured the mood of the crowd and got things bubbling. Hannibal jumped on for an hour of satisfying electro filth before DJ Oz stepped up to lash the crowd with his brand of deliciously dirty electro.

This was prime time, the hallowed hours in clubbing where everyone in front of the booth starts grinning and moving as one, and the DJ has the dancefloor nestled in the palm of his hand, building them up, taking them to each drop and letting them go. Oz was loving it, and so were we.

Flytrap did an amazing job on the terrace – and really that is where the party was kicking off. The other highlight was Stretch First - a duo who were not billed but ended up playing due to an unexplained cock up at their last event. Big, loud, bass-heavy electro and techno mash ups. Energetic, sweaty, lose-yourself-and-have-it dance music. Absolutely awesome.
