The future of the superclub hangs in the balance.

Fabric's sister club Matter - the colossal venue housed in the O2 - will close for the summer - and may not re-open. Officials at the superclub, which boasts one of the most technically advanced sound systems in the world, issued a statement yesterday confirming that the club "has temporarily closed over the summer period with a view to re-launching later in the year. This decision has been taken by the owners of Matter. The reopening will be considered over the course of the next few months and we will keep you advised when further information is available."
Comments on the forum Ravetalk sound more conclusive. An anonymous person claiming to work for Matter says: "I work for Matter London. It has closed for the indefinite future. They say it may open at the end of the summer, but how likely of this we are unsure. Look out for an official statement within the next few days!"
This is followed by a comment from another alleged staff member, Isobel1: "I also work at Matter…. it is definitely closing and there is no way we can open after the summer. It has been struggling ever since it opened with many job losses from literally day one. We are in a lot of debt which cannot be paid due to the running costs of the venue and the amounts that DJs charge for appearances. It’s a sad day but it is true."
Matter has continued to push the boundaries in its programming since opening in 2008 - their line-ups are always world class - but it seems that this was not enough to convince clubbers to trek to Greenwich.
Promoters at the venue included Andy C's Ram Records, Hospitality, Cocoon and Circo Loco. It also hosted occasional live events. Fingers crossed for Matter's future.
