Mulletover 5th Birthday Easter Special

Mulletover 5th Birthday Easter Special

Techno-sceptic that I am, I must confess to being a bit reluctant to believe the hype about mulletover. And the hype surrounding Geddes' underground party wagon – particularly for their latest event – has been substantial. It's especially noteworthy as it's their bumper Easter edition as well as being their 5th birthday.

So, swayed by the prospect of a three room bonanza at Seager Storage Units, with Artizan Music, Resident Advisor and Arpiar at the helm, I arm myself with a couple of last minute partners in crime and head down to the sleazy warehouse to trip the light fantastic.

The whole party in a warehouse which still manages to be incredibly expensive thing is getting stunningly over-tired. £4 a drink, oh, my shoes are covered in grime, and is that actually piss I’m standing in? £2 cloakroom and portaloos to boot, £18 on the door (cripes!) and already I have a bitter taste in my mouth. And that's not from all the cigaretes I'm allowed to smoke in here. But, I am delighted to report, it really is all worth it as soon as you hear the main room techno. Big, loud, decent soundsystem, high class tunes, top drawer crowd – hats must be appropriately doffed to the main man Geddes. He clearly knows what a good party means. There's also the bonus of no limiters because there's no residents anywhere near this place to complain. The mulletover crowd are wicked – friendly, bang up for it and hitting the roof to the sounds of Kurrage as we arrive.

Scepticism abandoned, I elbow my way to the front to witness Petre Inspirescu's (Pedro Arpiar's) exceptional manoeuvres on the tables and I’m utterly, euphorically sold. The hype surrounding the three Romanian techno wonder-boys has been expansive – although I’ve read mixed reviews about their sets. Tonight though, Pedro and Rhadoo are absolutely flaming.

Using a combo of CDJs and vinyl, watching Pedro at work is a beautiful thing. It's his use of the mixer which makes him stand out. Cutting the beat when you least expect it, teasing you, building you up, pushing it back in, cutting it back, giving you a bit more. He's hopping around in the booth and expertly sorting the crowd out with one of the finest techno sets I’ve seen. Deep, hard, groovy. Just the way it should be.

Artizan Music are in room three and DJ Deep sounds good. We catch a bit of Noze in RA's room two and head back to see what Greg Wilson’s up to but really, it's all about the Romanians in the main room. The sound is crisp and massive, the atmosphere sparkling, heads down, foot to the floor. Greg Wilson's set is, it pains me to say, boring. A remix of 'Superstitious' is what is playing as we walk away; predictable funk and soul which doesn't feel like the cutting edge music he's famed for exposing and we are driven back to where the action is.

Geddes does a good job with his closing set – deep, heavy, techy house which raises the temperature even more and everyone's obviously loving it. We leave with a spring in our step and a wag in our tails. Well done chaps, you’ve just earned yourself another fan. See you next time.
