Rustie making us sweat.

The Nest is one of the venues leading the way with their progressive bookings. Tonight it's Rustie - on Warp as well as the Glasgow-based Numbers imprint - who is both the off-centre and forward-thinking name on the bill. The basement is absolutely rammed in his honour.
Nest resident Stripes plays a banger of a warm-up set. It's pure rave: bass-driven vibes taking in old skool garage – albeit in an ironic manner – glitch hop, hip hop, dubstep and bass-focused house before rounding it off with some old skool jungle (Super Sharp Shooters anyone?) It's a brilliantly heavy, crowd-pleasing set.
The dancefloor is at fever pitch by the time the infamously shy headliner jumps on the decks. What follows is one of those extended moments of musical epicness which is impossible to boil down in words. Rustie's 'Glass Swords' album on Warp Records will give you a clue to his synth-laden, tempo-chopped style, but it's in his DJ sets that he really delivers the heavy hitters.
It's the set of an incredibly accomplished artist. The crowd stay with him no matter where he takes us. Big, rude and rinsing - but always slickly realised - he ramps it up to house tempo, which morphs into glitchy mania and then growls down to dubstep before a sweet little soulful RnB interlude pops in. The dancefloor is a seething pit of sweat and berserk dancing, with Rustie calmly detached behind the decks.
I actually love this environment – fighting your way through bodies means you need a really good excuse if you want to leave the floor – which results in spending the whole night dancing rather than cocking around and smoking outside.
This was the best night I’ve had in a long, long time. Rustie, you killed it.
