We sail into the sunset with Soundcrash

As we board the boat, the burble from the waiting Soundcrash crowd is directed towards the rather small looking Golden Flame. Flanked by plush cruise liners replete with optimistic palm trees and deck chairs, our vehicle is slightly outdone. But as soon as we board it matters not. A rig and a bar is all you need, and the enthused crowds emitting a hint of a pirate theme are excitable. A boat party is a special event. There's something to be said for everyone arriving at the party at the same time – and because you know it’s a four hour session you make the absolute most of the swaying dancefloor, and miss nothing.
The music is first rate – as I've come to expect from Soundcrash parties. Tonight it’s esteemed resident Mr Doris who warms things up with a mixture of funk, hip hop and everything in between. "It's always a pleasure playing for Soundcrash as no gig is ever the same" he says. "The venues change (from boat parties to The Roundhouse, from festivals in Croatia to The Royal Albert Hall) and the artists presented are always ones that I either already have in my record collection or aim to in the future." Daddy Ad from Trojan Soundsystem is also on board – sprinkling a dose of dub reggae – followed by Charlie Brown who plays an upfront, grimey set which gets everyone pretty heated.
Vadim is something of a legend – and his party tunes are perfect; DnB, hip hop, his infamous 'Terrorist' track, a remix of Rihanna’s 'Rude Boy'. Everyone’s loving it, the boat is packed and, best of all, the vibe is really friendly and intimate. Everyone’s acting like they’re immediately friends, which is not always something that tends to occur in nightclubs. Cheeba closes the evening with a fantastic set – I’ve never seen the resident play before and he is superb. It’s all upbeat party tunes – and having it on a swaying dancefloor makes it even more raucous.
“We would do this all the time if we could,” smiles Soundcrash promoter Rob Waller, his eye patch askew. They are working on their idyllic Soundwave Festival set on a private beach in Croatia this July – three days of boat parties, sunshine dancing and excellent music. It should be awsome – check it out here. We dock at 11:30pm as planned, and the night is still blissfully young. Sealegs carry revelers off in different directions to more parties, more dancing. All smiles.
