Dancefloor Bombs

The DJ desk furnishes you with our pick of the tunes that are tearing up dancefloors around the capital this week.

Tom picks: LV feat. Okmalumkoolkat - 'Boomslang' - Hyperdub 2010

A Boomslang is a deadly little snake from South Africa with slow acting venom. This means that after the initial bite you can feel fine, like it didn't bite you properly, but the venom will get you in the end. Which makes it a good title for this banger from the LV boys. It'll bite you straight away but it's not until later that you realise its lethality. Expect this kwaito-infused skanker, with its Claude Von Stroke-esque beepy bits, to be in everybody’s record box over the coming months.

Chloe picks: Chilly Gonzales - 'Never Stop' (Erol Alkan rework) - Phantasy Sound 2010

So here comes another belter from the legend that is. This time, it's a reworking of 'Never Stop', a record by Phantasy's latest squeeze, Chilly Gonzales.

I just can't stop listening to it: its persistent "waaaaah" drone, the underlying funky bassline and twisted elements really get to you. No doubt it'll continue to go down a storm in many a dark and discerning basement at silly o'clock. Hell yeah.

Lachie picks: Loadstar - Link to the Past - Ram Records 2010

'Link to the Past' is a tune that has been doing DJ rounds for months and yet has not even begun to get boring. The huge, bone-shaking bassline thundering its way out of club speakers never fails to set the club off, and I'm yet to hear it not be rewound.

Luckily it's one of the few tunes that deserves this sometimes irritating accolade, the spacey synths of the intro building into the unexpected, simple but deadly effective explosion of bass: Massive.
