Dancefloor bombs

Dancefloor bombs

by: Music Team

It's a Dancefloor Bomb roll-over week! Two weeks for the price of one with twice as many bangers. This week we've all picked one tune from a genre we're familiar with and one from outside our comfort zones...because we're mavericks.

Tom picks: Im New Here - Gil Scott-Herron and Jamie XX

This combination of artists is a pantwetting prospect even before you've pressed play and it doesn't disappoint. I normally have an uncontrollable (and fairly irrational) urge to reject anything I'm told is good by mainstream media. Jamie XX, however, is well on his way to being one of the all time greats and his frankly genius reworking of Scott-Heron's album of last year is well worth a purchase. This remix samples Gloria Gaynor to brilliant effect, but enough gushing, listen to it and believe the hype.

Funkystepz - Fuller (Hyperdub 2011)

Funkystepz are what I want out of UK funky. They make stripped down bangers (although I have to admit 'Party Ting' from last year is undeniably wack), and this is a great example. With way more swagger than the beat structure suggests it should have and an ugly lead line that should get old quickly but doesn't this is doing damage to dancefloors everywhere.

Alya picks: Mz Bratt - Get Dark (A-List 2011)

When you are good looking and ooze attitude in the delivery to your lyrical wit - its much easier to get ahead in the music industry. Especially when you are a chick in a mostly male dominated MC game. Mz Bratt does more than just hold her ground in this up beat, catchy tune that will most definitely have you singing ‘pretty little lighty but I can get dark’… even if you’re a six foot, balding giant of a man.

ASC – Windchime (Inperspective Records)

Whilst searching for a drum n bass track that did not give me a headache at ten AM on a Friday morning I came across the aptly named ‘windchime.’ Starting off with a mystical tapping, reminiscent of caresses on the drum kit’s high-hat, the tune takes you into a world of fog, into a murky, deserted magical moor where the earth becomes a cloud you can sink your troubled mind through, before coming out the other side, brand new.

Netti picks: XX - Shelter (Alix Perez & Khanage bootleg)

Naivety and power are entwined in this amorous track. Gasp and get lost in the vocals that sing echoes of past lovers. A hopeful skipping beat holds hands with an intense rifting bassline. Let your heart soar sky high and transcend mortal love. This beat will woo you more than any boy can.

and

Noah And The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N (FAKE BLOOD Mix) (White 2011)

Folky violins conjure gypsy horror. An ominous remix, like a crystal ball, whose clear glass spills with rising black clouds, that suck an electro dancefloor into a pit of building synths. It's looking like electo and its worshippers may be dead, until it spells the reassuring letters L.I.F.E G.O.E.S.O.N. Phew.
