Dancefloor Bombs

Dancefloor Bombs

A bumper crop of dancefloor bombs this week with selections from across the musical spectrum.

Lowri picks: Justin Martin - Cicada - Claude Vonstroke Remix (Dirty Bird)

OK so this one is not all THAT new, but in honour of Dirtybird boss Claude VonStroke playing a sweet little London party last night, it has to be included. Deep Dirtybird bumping beats. Their trademark sound. I'm an addict.

Tom O picks: J Dilla feat. Phat Kat - Welcome to Detroit (BBE)

The recent reissues of BBE's Beat Generation series means all those who missed them first time round get to pick up some classics, and I get to post one of my all time favourite Dilla beats as though it's new. This is a great example of why he's one of the most lauded hip hop producers ever, deceptively simple but such a neck snapper.

Netti picks: Canblaster - Triple Ring - Original mix (Nightshifters)

French new kid on the scene Canblaster shakes up the place with this wicked beat that follows an unconventional production structure. There's a skippy clapping beat similar to 'Claptrap' by Joe with a pounding four to the floor stomp that swoons in and out while gorgeous garage vocals serenade.

Alya picks: Rihanna – S&M (Def Jam)

A banging beat and Rihanna, the protagonist of an obscene number of fantasies - combine to give birth to a track that I can already visualise girls the world over cheekily gyrating their hips and singing along to. ‘I may be bad but I’m perfectly good at it.’ And who doesn’t like being bad? It’s so catchy you almost forget that Rihanna can’t withstand a punch to the face a la Chris Brown. Chains and whips? Good luck with that.

Tom A picks: Julio Bashmore - Battle For Middle You (PMR)

With a relentless punching beat that'll get inside your body and throw it helplessly around, this is more than just a dancefloor bomb, this is all out warfare on the defenceless civilians of dancefloor territory. Once you hear those unmistakable bouncing blips come in either get on the floor or run for cover - it's about to go off. It's pointless trying to pigeon-hole it into a genre as it's got deep, dubstep, disco and tech heads all raving about it equally. Future classic.
