Dancefloor Bombs

It's Friday, ain't got no job, ain't got shit to do! Oh, wait.....

Lowri picks: Quell - Army of Lover Miles Maeda Remix Quell - Army Of Lover Miles Maeda Remix by Quell

A slightly leftfield choice for me this week. A nod to disco specialist Tom Armstrong and his unrelentingly great dancefloor bombs - which have led me to enjoy things on a more soulful side. This is a belter. Gwen McRae brings those beautiful vintage vibes: Miles Maeda's remix is total disco house lushness. It's got the funk in spades. ("Can you feel it???")

Ebony picks: Kidkanevil- When Doves Bounce (Illum Sphere's rebounce) Kidkanevil - When Doves Bounce (Illum Sphere's Rebounce) by palmer eldritch

Who says you can't revamp an old track? Of course it's possible, especially if the beat still causes a rocketed lift off. Kidkanevil is obviously a major beatsmith - it's no doubt that 'When doves bounce' is a banger. But for me it's all about the remix.

Illum Sphere's 'rebounce' is a heavy slab of urban hip hop merged with synth and glitch. A creation which unites old-skool rap and hardcore beat lovers into one club. Not only does it force you to bounce uncontrollably but as this track drops, just try and see if there is any space left on the floor for you to show your appreciation in anyway that your body moves. Be carful not to convulse too much mind. Weeeeeeohhh BANG.

Joj picks: Enei - Movin' Fast Enei - Movin' Fast [CRITICAL] by ENEI

Enei, at least partially responsible for the recent Russian revolution on the drum and bass scene, has a string of huge techy brooders and high octane monsters to his name. But ‘Movin’ Fast’ is an entirely different beast.

It is difficult for me to talk sensibly about this track when I feel I might better describe it with joyous nonsensical gurglings. The sheer weight of the first drop would have been enough to win me over, but the subsequent expanding climb of the lead line, morphing from motor growl to diabolic shriek, is total uninhibited lunacy.

Tom picks: Tornado Wallace - Rainbow Road (The Revenge mix)

Tornado Wallace : Rainbow Road (The Revenge Strings Of Fife Mix) by The Revenge

A brief introduction to Tornado Wallce: Australian, great name, big moustache, makes really good disco house music. Put him in a room with The Revenge and look what happens, it's blissful stuff. If there was a tune playing on the crossroads where disco meets deep house, this would be it. Who knew deep could sound so dramatic.
