Lowri picks: Modeselektor - 'Monkey Flip' feat. Nazizi & Abbas
Modeselektor feat. Nazizi & Abbas "Monkey Flip" (Monkeytown Records) Out March 18! by Modeselektor
For me this week it has to be the mighty Modeselektor. This tune was recorded in Nairobi when a few Berlin based artists participated in a project with musicians from Kenya. It was recorded in a single hotel room session. It just has so much energy. The guest vocalists are respectively, King of Kenyan hip hop MC Abbas and first Lady of East African hip hop Nazizi. Their ragga vocals swing massively over the fat as hell bassline. Modeselektor have gone in a new direction - one that hints at their new album 'Monkeytown'. Big bassy hip hop. In your face.
Tom A picks: MAM – 'Bedroom Dancer'
MAM - Bedroom Dancer by outcrossrecords
This slice of French inspired electro-house has been bubbling around the underground since the Spring, but it deserves a mention this week as it's finally got a release on the prestigious W+L Black edits series.
The man behind the tune is Miguel Campbell, whose 'Something Special Sexy Wonderful' on Hot Creations has been the underground smash of the summer. Definitely a name you should be keeping you ear out for.
Joj picks: Radiohead - 'Bloom' (Blawan rmx)
Bloom - Blawan RMX by Radiohead
Deep, masterful and dissimilar are the many officially commissioned remixes of Radiohead’s King of Limbs album that have been landing, two or three at a time, all summer long. One recent batch included this groaning, thudding beastie by Blawan.
A lengthy intro of yawning strings give way to a percussive tribal march, beating its way through the pre-historic undergrowth as foggy lamentations of Thom’s ghostly vocals sweep across the path.
Danny picks: Calibre - 'Condition'
Calibre - Condition [SIGLP007] by Surus
We rummaged around for you guys (‘cos we’re nice like that) and look what we found! This snippet of six of the tracks D’n’B exemplar, Calibre is set to release on a long player in early October, his sixth on Signature Records. The album leans toward the rolling softer side of D’n’B but we discovered this little monster, hiding in the corner bursting to get into your lugholes. In the shape of track 3, we give you ‘Garbage Man’.
