Lowri picks: Boddika - Acid Jackson
Acid Jackson by Boddika
This track has such an incredible beginning. Your hair stands on end. You feel something important is about to happen. As it drops you look around and see people asking 'what the hell is this?' It cleverly comes at you from both directions, whirling around you, pushing you over the edge, an acid frenzy creeping up your spine. The skittery little beat only adds to the power. And then, out of nowhere....cow bells. Serious heat.
Tom picks: Cottam - Twang
Cottam-Twang-Aus Music-Low Bitrate mp3 by Cottam
Cottam's productions have a unique, distinct sound: deep hypnotic grooves punctuated with tribal drums and percussion – punchy yet soulful, and in my opinion this is the best yet. You could imagine 'Twang' being born out of a campfire jam session with Fela Kuti, ?uestlove and Larry Heard. Production-wise this is so much better than anything else I've heard lately it's ridiculous.
Emma picks: Locussolus - I Want It (Lindstrom & Prins Thomas Remix)
During an interview with Glitterball DJ and promoter Simon Busby, he told me he was intending to 'give this a ruddy good airing' at his next party and I can vouch that it went down a treat. With rude horns, a runaway piano and a snatch of 'I'm Your Venus' thrown in for good measure, it reminds me a bit of what Colonel Hathi's elephant herd would sound like at a disco.
