Tom picks: Nicholas - Love Message
Home Taping 13 - Nicholas - Love Message by Home Taping
Nicholas must be due some kind of lifetime achievement award for contributions to Dancefloor Bombs soon. I'm not biased - I don't even like the name Nicholas that much, it reminds me of a kid at school who smelt, but when the Perugian keeps slamming things like this onto wax how can you ignore it? You'll never go too far wrong sampling MFSB's – Love is the Message, but he's gone way beyond relying on recognition of the original, adding hefty drums and a collage of vocals to guarantee maximum dancefloor love. He's one of the few producers talented and prolific enough to be creating their own sound out of an over-populated scene.
Lowri picks: Akira Kiteshi - Boom N Pow
Akira Kiteshi - Boom N' Pow by Dubsanchez
When Friday rolls around, this is one of the tunes which feels like it was born to mark its arrival. Boom and indeed, Pow. Akira Kiteshi's pinball fantasy bleeps and smash and grab bass strike the perfect note of controlled, synthesised chaos. It all sounds deliciously chunky and unreal, as if I was a character in a beat 'em up roaming the streets delivering smackdowns and spinning word kicks.
Emma picks: Patrick Di Stefano and Luca Doobie - Get Through
Patrick Di Stefano & Luca Doobie - Get Through (straight mix) - 11B by Selected DJ Tunes
There are a couple of different versions of this track on the Get Through EP but I like the 'straight mix' most. It's the kind of tune you can really imagine hearing on the Circo Loco terrace. It's got an energetic groove that is impossible not to jack your body to, cool vocals, a rolling bassline, hey - there's even a cowbell or two. What's not to like?
