Tom picks: Lee Foss - Brooklyn in the House
Lee Foss - Brooklyn In The House (Original Mix) by i-D online
He's a funny one, Lee Foss. One minute he's churning out era-defining pieces of musical wizardry, the next it's lazy house-by-numbers for the suburban masses. Thankfully his latest EP on brand new label Mexa Records is an absolute spanker. The A-Side is Foss at his best - a growling bassline littered with sexually charged vocal samples, but the real beauty is in this gem. Vintage strings and a beautiful Marcus Miller style funk bassline make this a welcome return to form from the Hot Creations man, and a Notorious BIG sample in there to boot - it just doesn't get any better.
Lowri picks: Crookers feat Style of Eye - That Laughing Track (TWR72 Remix)
Crookers feat. Style Of Eye & Carli- That Laughing Track (TWR72 Remix) by TWR72
It's actually quite sinister this - as well as being laughably good - as you'd expect from the masterful producers involved. The maniacal laughter comprises part of the techno beat, weaving in and out, chopping and changing as the driving groove keeps on coming. Nuanced, complex, hard. Great.
Lowri picks: Fomao - Sherlock
Foamo - Sherlock (out now) by Foamo
This is a peak time track if ever I heard one. It's from his new 'Tremors' EP and is totally on point with the high octane, jittery energy which Foamo has made his own. I am a sucker for a cheesy female vocal juxtaposed with rinsing beats, and Foamo nails this every time. Best consumed on maximum volume.
