DC Breaks - Creeper / Horror

RAM Recordings

DC Breaks - Creeper by RAM Records

It would have been more fitting to release these tracks in a few weeks time considering Halloween is only around the corner as both these tracks have an air of evil to them. 'Creeper' is the darker and techy older brother with multiple sweeps of bass for the connoisseur of DnB.

‘Horror‘ is the jump-up little brother with coronary-inducing frequencies that is sure to be heard in a Union club near you come 1:30am. 4/5

Lady Gaga – You and I
Interscope Records

Sorry Gaga, no amount of goth weddings or S&M funerals can detract from the Taylor Swift-like sounds in this mediocre take on country and western.

As far as I can tell, Gaga's trying to woo someone in Nebraska but everyone's thinks she's Michelle Branch so they leave her in a cornfield to sing about her daddy, and Jesus Christ. 3/5

S.C.U.M - Whitechapel
Mute UK

S.C.U.M Whitechapel by Mute UK

If the Estonian prime minister asked Brian Molko to write and perform a Eurovision entry based on the Jack the Ripper murders (which is a very real possibility) this is pretty close to how it'd sound.

Maybe to a foreign ear the word 'Whitechapel' conjures up romantic images of cutting edge cool and a burgeoning East London music scene - think Bowie and Warszawa, I just can't help think of textile outlets and chicken shops. One day this song will be used to sell me a five-door coupe. 3/5

Outfit – Two Islands
Double Denim

Two Islands by OUTFIT

For a band whose elusive online identity bravely encourages the music to do the talking, their debut single 'Two Islands' says frighteningly little as it careers dangerously down the middle of the road.

By no means an offensive or unenjoyable track it opens with psychedelic guitar swirls that roll seductively across afro-beat percussions, only to be let down by this comparatively bland chorus that really just fails to wow. 2.5/5

You Me At Six – Loverboy
Virgin

You Me At Six - Loverboy by theinsound

You Me At Six are one of those bands that contain heavy riffs and mega-girly vocals, which really just warps my mind. Now they’ve added some pansy da-da-da-da bollocks to this track to make the riff even catchier.

Just like everyone else, I find catchy songs pretty annoying – especially the ones that you can’t get out of your head. If you read the news and find out that I’ve blown my brains out, it’ll be because of these lads. 1/5
