Mazes – Most Days

FatCat Record

Mazes - Most Days by FatCat Records

Wow, shit, this is totally brilliant. It's ages since I heard a track this exciting – fun, poppy and free, but also tight and slick, with plenty of ooh ooh oohs thrown in for good measure. '90s guitars, '60s harmonies, a smidge of the Stone Roses, and completely inaudible lyrics: perfect.

At only 1.47 this really is a vibrant burst of freshness – the Glade plug-in of pop if you will. But better than that sounds, obviously. 5/5

Matt BerryTake My Hand
Acid Jazz Records

As a massive fan of comedian Matt Berry, I’m probably going to be rather biased towards anything he produces. If you are unfamiliar with his comedy work, check this out: I think you’ll agree he’s amazing. Anyhoo, back to the music. ‘

Take My Hand’ has a melodic 70s folk sound to it mixed with a sprinkling of soul. Think Maxine Nightingale meets Crosby, Stills and Nash. Lovely stuff. Plus the Witchazel album cover features a bearded Matt holding a pheasant. Need I go on? 4/5

Ayah Marar - Follow You (Youth Kills Remix) by Go-ListenToPromos

One of the finest vocal talents in this country finally releases her much anticipated  album next week and this first single has received an absolutely brilliant dubstep reworking from Yogi.

Not too wobbly not too light. a masterclass in how to remix in a dubstep style without ruining the original, This has anthem written all over it, looks like 2011 belongs to Ayah Marar. 4/5

Big Deal – Talk
Moshi Moshi

Big Deal - Talk by moshi moshi music

While the rugged neo-folk of Big Deal’s second single, ‘Talk’, crawls off down tangents of spooked-out static, it’s misguided semblance of morbid loneliness is contrary to its accepting theme.

Rather than cling onto thoughts of defeat, following the likes of Hiss Golden Messenger and Plug through disjointed airs of solemn downfall, the duo aggrandize their effect through layers and lyrics. Claims of detachment and assertion are delivered over a coating of guitars that suggest a serious digestion of ‘Loveless’ and Cat Power’s ‘The Greatest’.  3/5

Pearson Sound – Listen
Cargo Records

Pearson sound - listen by cargorecords

Somehow reminiscent of old school hip hop – one of the best dub step producers around these days gives us a little something to shake to. Eyes closed, bass pumping all I can see are asses shaking vigorously and girls getting low.

And with this kind of track, at the right place, at the right time – I may very well be one of them. After all, its so hard not to join in.  3/5

No Friends
- Traditional Failures

Kiss of Death

Traditional failures of the world:

Pollution - the introduction of contaminants into a natural environment as a result of reckless drumming and screaming.

Death- the termination of biological functions that sustain a living organism- yes this includes 80's hardcore.

Loneliness - a strong sense of emptiness and solitude usually as a result of having No Friends.

War - an openly declared state of organized violent conflict - perfectly displayed by this track.1/5
