Ghostpoet – Survive It
Brownswood Recordings
Ghostpoet - Survive It by Brownswood
Aside from verging on going into Bran Van 3000's Drinking in LA, I'm loving Ghostpoet's latest track from his sumptuously named 'Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam' album. Granted, the Cov lad's downbeat mono-tonality is a tad depressing, but it's got bucket loads of spliffy lyrics that just roll off his lisp ridden tongue: 'Nobody's comin and the pie's in the oven, so you stop mind wondering and back to the present, it's a dinner for one with the dimmer lights on.'
Boom! And when Fabiana Palladino pipes up in the chorus everything just balances out. Perfect for laid back languid listening in the early hours. 4/5

Foo Fighters – Rope
RCA
Rope by Foo Fighters
Y’know, that band with the drummer from Nirvana. Yeah, the guy that’s deemed the nicest guy in rock. Well, they’re back.
Rope marks the edgy-as-hell return of Foo Fighters. Stepping up their game from the U2-esque vibe they went with during their last album, Rope sees the Foos return to their best – melodic, raw and powerfully heavy. Playing nearly every festival going this summer, it’s going to be difficult to escape these guys in the next month or so. Good job then they’ve nailed their comeback record. 4/5

Guards – Resolution of One
Kitsune
guards - resolution of one by lamusicafresca
Sitting upon a canvas of Spector-fuzz, Richie Follin of Guards could be in danger of ambling on through the limp choirs of failed lo-fi hipsters past.
Somehow, though, the lank-haired trendy type manages to conjure up an element of throbbing beauty within the yearning chorus of his shimmering noise-pop spout. Sounding like Cold War Kids covering Smith Westerns, Guards can place themselves upon the top of the pile of short-lived brilliance, but hey, at least they got a chance to come and view life from upon the plinth of popularity. 4/5

Evil Ex – Bygones
Blood and Biscuits
'D'Lin' - Evil Ex [Bygones EP] by mattcalvert
You'd be forgiven for thinking that an EP featuring two Three Trapped Tigers members, glitchy electronics and soundscapes of epic proportions would pretty much be... well, Three Trapped Tigers minus one member.
But you'd be wrong. Kind of. Matt Clavert's new solo project (with guest drumming from Adam Betts) takes the precision and delicacy of TTT, and blends it with refreshing new ideas, meticulous execution and a penchant for guitar riffs. Stunningly evocative work. 3.5/5

The Computers – Music is Dead
One Little Indian
The Computers - Music Is Dead (Clean Edit) by One Little Indian Records
If 'Music Is Dead' it's because The Computers just bludgeoned it to death with a neurotic sledgehammer of rock n' roll post-punk. They would probably give it the finger too before wildly running off into the distance flailing their arms about and tearing their neatly pressed shirts off.
There is a real sense of feral energy in this single. Given their pristine image, think a ballsier version of The Hives being taught to gargle razorblades with Jonny Rotten. Or a tattooed, hardcore Chuck Berry. Yes. 3/5

Sid Le Rock - Gentlemen's Intermission EP
Shitkatapult
Sid Le Rock "Gentlemens Intermission EP" by Sid LeRock aka Pan/Tone
I think it's always best to describe ambient techno as if it were a soundtrack to a video game. Here are the various stages at which you might hear Sid Le Rock's new 'Gentlemens Intermission' EP:
Made for You – Exploring an underwater cave with a talking amphibian
Devil's Night – Patrolling the streets of a crime-ridden neon metropolis
Hello Gorgeous – You win! Now you can kick back on your home planet with the ghost of your kung-fu mentor. 3/5

Let’s Wrestle – In Dreams Part II
Full Time Hobby
01 In Dreams Part II by Kalavas1
If you like Let's Wrestle already there's not much here to turn you off their messy, bassy style derivative of The Pixies, Feeder, and thirty-eight other bands that undeniably "do music" much better than Let's Wrestle do. It sounds pretty much like everything else they've put out.
In Dreams Part II isn't very good, but it does reference punching a Pokemon. Which is something. It's also the spiritual sequel to In Dreams, from their debut album In the Court of the Wrestling Let's. (But that's not very good either.) 2/5
