Off His Christmas Party

Off His Christmas Party

Not all Christmas parties are created equal.

The term 'office Christmas party' throws up many images, most of them deeply unsettling. Misuse of photocopiers, bad music, bad dancing, getting drunk and embarrassing yourself in front of your boss. The list goes on and on, and it's no wonder that these events are dreaded by most amongst the office-working classes. Luckily, the Off His Party on Friday thrown by the good people of DJHistory.com, Electric Minds and Redux involved none of these things.

Taking place in at the sometime party venue Cloisters Court in Farringdon, this offers a perfect space for the proceedings. Just a short walk from the old Turnmills site, the venue consists of two arches, one containing a bar and one containing a pair of turntables and mess of dancing bodies. With low ceilings, lit by red lights from the front and rear of the dance floor, this is not your usual spot for a Christmas soiree. The end result is an intimate space to party the night away.

The DJs on the night are made up of the various members of the participating crews. From DJHistory the big cheeses Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton lead the contingent and are joined by Mark Seven, Name Drop and Benoit. Electric Minds offer up Hreno (Live) and Dolan Bergin, whilst leading the charge from the Redux camp are Andy Whittaker and Tristan da Cunha.

The music weaves its way seamlessly from the deeper end of house and techno, with plenty of bump and plenty of groove, to well loved disco and funk classics. Thankfully on the night there's not a Christmas hit in sight. The crowd lap it up enthusiastically all night long, and erupt into pure rapture when Bill drops Dimitri from Paris’ re-edit of 'I Wanna be your Lover' which still rings in my ears as I head for the exit when the music comes to an end.

As we stumble out onto the freezing central London street with a crowd of other contented revellers I feel that the boys and girls from DJHistory, Electric Minds and Redux have done us proud in spite of the conspicuous lack of mince pies, and not an unwanted secret Santa present in sight! Thank you all.
