Total Control - Scene From A Marriage by subpop

What is going on with Australia at the moment? All of a sudden they suck and cricket and have got awesome at making music, it’s like they’re becoming us or something.

A super group of sorts made up of Straightjacket’s Daniel Stewart and Mikey Young of the Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control ‘Scene from a Marriage’ sounds like Crystal Stilts filtered through a darker version of the Bad Seeds. See Fidlar, you can make good garage rock without having to sing about tits and beer. It’s just about possible. 4.5/5

DIIV Sometime
Spunk Records

Sometime by SpunkRecords

Let’s all have a Brookyln vegan hipster shoegaze party. We’ll all sit around and moan about how we ‘over-analyse’ shit and discuss new age pseudo-scientific ideas. And then we’ll make a record and it’ll sound like The Cure. Repeat x100000.

Its one saving grace is that it's released on Spunk Records, and that makes me laugh. 3/5

Savages – I Am Here
Popnoire records

Releasing a live EP is no bad thing. Releasing a live single, not so hot, especially one recorded as poorly as ‘I Am Here’. This blaring, raw track is for those nights when you fancy pretending you've just won Fight Club, which for some, is every night.

In short, it's not as hard as it thinks it is and definitely not so easy on the ears. 3/5

Beth Jeans Houghton – Dodecahedron
MUTE

Beth Jeans Houghton - Dodecahedron by Mute UK

Let me get this straight, last night you dreamed of Dodechedrons and your eyes were bleeding? Beth, you have some seriously messed up dreams, thank god you decided to write them down and turn them into a cutesy orchestral pop song that sounds like Kate Bush meeting Lulu and the Lampshades.

I mean, normally I’d love to hear about how you had a picnic on the rings of Saturn with George Washington, Parsley the Lion and a triangle, but I’ve just remembered that I have videotapes that need to go back. Next time, yeah? 2.5/5

Peaches Burst
Boysnoize

Peaches "Burst!" (Original Club Version) by Peaches Rocks

Burst is everything we’ve come to expect from Canadian performance artist Peaches: confrontational, edgy and abrasive. Compared to 2009’s brilliant I Feel Cream however, this just sounds messy and dated.

Out of the twelve million remixes offered, Bart B More’s dub is the strongest. Don't tell Peaches I said any of this though as I'm definitely still a bit scared of her. 2/5
