Xeno and Oaklander – Sets and Lights
Weird Records
Me: This Xeno and Oaklander song is amazing
Lowri: What’s that?
Me: Really scary coldwave from New York. Sounds like the theme from Hellraiser crossed with Visage.
Lowri: ummmm...in a disco?
Me: A French disco.
Lowri:French aquadisco…
Me: That’s my review sorted. 4.5/5

Mazzy Star - Lay Myself Down
Rhymes of an Hour
Mazzy Star - Lay Myself Down by white_pants
This would be my soundtrack if I was broken-hearted and down-and-out in some bar in Memphis. I would sip whiskey, wheeze on a cheroot and then slowly walk down a dusty road holding up my thumb while the sun cut through the leaves and the dust devils begin to whirl.
A pick-up might stop, with a guy and an acoustic guitar in the back. He'd have a beard and a gold tooth. I might just get in. 4/5

Moon Duo – Horror Tour EP
Souterrain Transmissions
MOON DUO - Horror Tour by souterraintransmissions
Moon Duo are no laughing matter. OK, if you make the typo Moob Duo they are a laughing matter, but most of the time they make music that is so loud, strange and in your face, you don’t know whether to run or hide.
The Horror Tour EP catches them on perfect form. Deriving themes from an antique book of spells they discovered at a library sale in rural New Hampshire, this mostly instrumental record is 20 odd minutes of mind-warping, southern themed psychedelia that leads you down a rabbit hole and leaves you there. Play it loud. 4/5

Connan Mockasin - Faking Jazz Together
Phantasy
Connan Mockasin - Faking Jazz Together by Connan Mockasin
This Connan Mockasin track is what everyone wants a comedown to sound like. Like a spaced-out kitten at Woodstock or a smiley, happy molecule of vitamin C mopping up free radicals.
It's a bit heady and has the balls to cut itself off after 1 minute and 22 seconds. Unfortunately, its the wrong side of that thin line between ephemeral and pointless. The Tom Furse Remix infinitely more interesting. I probably shouldn't have put balls and cut in the same sentence. 3/5

Cher Lloyd - With Ur Love (Feat Mike Posner)
Syco
Cher Lloyd feat. Mike Posner - With Ur Love (Teka & SoulForce Reggae RMX) by SOULFORCE
The only great thing about this record is Mike Posner's name. Aren't you supposed to get a good name when you graduate from rapper school? Ice-T? Snoopy Doggy Dogg? Mike Posner sounds like the man who brings the sandwiches at a church fete. What's he doing talking about going to 'second base' with Cher Lloyd?
Even better - a quick Google image search shows that he's the human version of Doug Funny. Oh yeh, the song's rubbish. 1/5
