The ladies come out on top. Again.

Deap Vally - Lies
Island Records
Deap Vally - Lies by MrShadows
As if sent to earth by the rock gods Deap Vally are two guitar toting chicks from LA. Looking more like the models usually roped in to feature in scrawny indie kids videos the pair tear through riffs as big as "Seven Nation Army".
Even if you don't like blues infused power duos you can shut out and watch front woman Lindsay Troy flaunt her cleavage for all to see. The Jack White-esque rap squawk half way is perhaps ill advised but the vocal melodies will get inside your head for eternity. 4/5

Jagwar Ma - The Throw
Marathon Artists
The Throw by Jagwar Ma
Taking all the elements of ‘baggy’ music bar the gritty angst, Jagwar Ma manage to blend house beats, indie riffs and drawling vocals without sounding like they’re singing through a noose. With chirpy harmonies and hazy lyrics, the only thing these kids look like they worry about if their Ma’s washed that ‘lived in’ smell out of their jumpers.
And if the music doesn’t take you back to Madchester’s heyday, watch the video - if 3 minutes of jumping teenage junkies and acid colour flashes don’t make you think of the Hacienda, nothing will. 3.5/5

Liars - Point your Pistols to the Sky
Adult Swim
Liars - Point Your Pistols To The Sigh by theQuietus
Liars contribute a track to the ongoing Adult Swim series in the form of this steady audio assault on the ears which teeters on the brink of being just very loud and very good. It begins with what sounds like an objectionable robotic dog barking repetitively.
Once hostilities are out of the way, however, the song's strength comes from the palpable warehouse din and enjoyed thoroughly until its unceremonious and abrupt ending. 'Point Your Pistols To The Sigh' is a six minute song only three and a quarter minutes long, and it's a shame they didn't go the whole hog. 3/5

Andy Burrows - If I had a Heart
PIAS
Andy Burrows - If I Had A Heart (Radio Mix) by Andy Burrows Official
Despite having a face that looks like it's on a job share with James Arthur, Andy Burrows strikes me as a very nice man. He seems like the kind of guy who takes his Metro with him when he gets off the tube so he can recycle it at a later date. So what has he done to warrant the abuse thrown at him in this video?
The poor fella can't even manage a spot of busking without being assaulted by angry women who pelt him with cakes, hit him with flowers and shout into his dead, dead eyes. The man had to work with Johnny Borrell! HAS HE NOT KNOWN ENOUGH SUFFERING?! Anyway, the song is pants. The synths aren't bad but the promised big drums and huge chorus never arrive. Shame. 2.7/5

Dizzee Rascal - Bassline Junkie by MIRAGE 22
I have a problem with this new Dizzee Rascal track. There’s a lot of talk about this so-called “big, dirty, stinkin’ bass” - but there’s actually just “quite a bit” of bass in this track. The beat also sounds like something that was discarded by DJ Pied Piper (of “Do You Really Like It” fame) in the early ‘00s. Maybe they (the people who made this track) decided to use it in the hopes of sparking the reaction, “oh my god, this is kinda like old skool Dizzee!”?
Sadly "it’s just a big dirty, stinkin" mess, for me anyway. (Saying that, I’ve been listening to it on repeat for the past hour). 2/5
