Fleet Foxes - The Shrine/An Argument
Bella Union
10 The Shrine An Argument by buildthemachine
The next person I hear moan about the state of 'modern music' is going to get a Fleet Foxes album round the head. The Shrine/An Argument are best treated as one track with three separate segments, all of which are excellent in their own right.
From the melodic folk of the first two minutes, to the vast mid section, and the final journey into Zepplin-esque mysticism, Fleet Foxes take folk music into regions only hinted at by their predecessors. I can't think of a good reason to give this anything other than a full house. 5/5

BLKLSTRS – I Can Confirm
Brew
Gotta love BLKLSTRS. What other band out there could combine the Mark E Smith style Mumbling Nonsense with hardcore that is more brutal than Sick of It All being beaten to death by an army of traffic wardens.
‘I Can Confirm’ is a snapshot of the Leeds based punks at their best; pot-stirring verses leading into head smashing break downs and a song structure that seems like it’s from Mars. Bloody brilliant! 4.5/5

Miracle Fortress – Everything Works
Rough Trade
03. Everything Works - Miracle Fortress by Republic of Music
Miracle Fortess' ‘Everything Works’ sounds like the mother of electronic indie pop has arranged a Back to the Future-esque playdate so Empire of the Sun and Talking Heads can hang out for a bit.
They're sweet kids, they have a lot of fun in the sandpit and they play nicely. But as you tap your foot along to what could easily be called a chill-out tune, you kind of hope someone gets smacked in the face with a plastic spade, but no one does. 4/5

King Krule – King Krule EP
True Panther
King Krule- EP by truepanther
King Krule may look like the kid at school who kept to himself a lot and used to spend art classes painting his hands in PVA glue, but beneath this nerdy exterior lies what can only really be described as the British version of Girls.
The artist formerly known as Zoo Kid, this EP is a nice introduction to his downbeat, but quite inventive blend of lo-fi idream pop, inditronica and Jamie Woon style post dubstep. It’s actually not that bad – a bit Plan B in places, but certainly a quality effort for a Brit School Kid. 3/5

Giovanna – Out In Bold
Mi7 Studios
Giovanna - Out In Bold by mi7records
She's a little bit Sade, a little bit Fiona Aple. Praise indeed for the 21 year old Giovanna - the little sister of Mumford and Son's vocalist Winston Marshall. She been at the classical piano since she was 5 - so this is her rite of passage.
This simple but intense offering is her debut single, and pitches her sound as deep and dark. For a first single it's pretty good. 3/5
