New Build - "Finding Reasons" by newbuild

The review I wanted to write about this new side project from Al Doyle and Felix Martin of Hot Chip goes something like "old rockers, not relevant any more, sounds like my Dad etc etc".

Alas, I actually really like it. There are shades of Pink Floyd, not only in the lucid dreamlike vocals but the rip roaring guitar solo. They've been there, done it, and have nothing left to prove - this is the sound of people kicking back and relaxing, and it sounds good. 4.5/5

Ghost Outfit – Tuesday

Ghost Outfit - Tuesday by sways

If you’re anything like me, you stay up at night thinking about what would happen if the Stooges covered My Bloody Valentine. I reckon it would end up like this bliss rocker from Ghost Outfit, which sounds like a beating from a crazed muscle man, whist a child sings nursery rhymes in your ear.  4.3/5

Seapony – Sailing
Hardly Art

OK, I admit it, I was quite hoping this was a cover of that Rod Stewart song, but hey, this lovely sounding slice of folk pop will do quite nicely. Beautifully poised and lushly produced, Seapony nail that Joanna Newsom meets psych-folk thing that Warpaint have been attempting for the last couple of years. The guitar solo is a total winner as well.

It makes me want to close my eyes and imagine I’m driftwood. 4/5

Submotion Orchestra – Always
Ranking Records

Submotion Orchestra 'Always' by Hear This

Like muted swing leaking out of a speaker, Ruby Wood's gentle, insistent vocals form a haze over laid back jazz pepped up by pop rocks or dub or something. Her voice reminisces without being as whiny as say, Dido but there is an element of what the Yanks call elevator music, which makes this feel like a 5 minute intro to something that never really happens.

Happily though, Shanks and Bigfoot are probably just waiting to put it through their Playdough Factory and turn it into the next ‘Sweet Like Chocolate’. 3/5

Deckard – Andromeda
Equinox records

Deckard - Andromeda by .Deckard.

IDM – intelligent dance music for all you MORONS out there. This track is so bloody intelligent it had written its own review with references before I'd even boiled the kettle. Obviously you wouldn't understand it so there's no point even trying to read it. Now go away while I zone out.

PS: I hate intelligent dance music. 2/5
