Matthew Dear – Her Fantasy
Ghostly International
Matthew Dear - Her Fantasy (Original Mix) by DJ Times Magazine
Matthew Dear has woven a fantastical rainforest spell with this absolutely epic new track. It's almost DJ T meets Deep Forest in its lush intensity, or early Leftfield perhaps. Whatever you wanna say, I can already hear it echoing across the festival fields right now, all covered in glitter, thousands of hands in the air which whispers the words summer anthem.
Euphoric is the order of the day. 4.5/5

Stooshe – Black Heart
Warner Music
I love this. It's pop with soul. Syrupy-sweet, yet slightly catty, totally sassy and better believe booty-shaken soul. Stooshe are the London bred R&B trio making grown up girl pop. They also have that retro American diner vibe going, diva-ish in a beauty queen kinda way, singing their sorrows with smiles. Great. 4/5

Night Works – I Tried so Hard
Loose Lips
I Tried So Hard (extended version) by NGHTWRKS
There’s not very many times I miss not having a car, but Night Works ‘I Tried So Hard’ . I might sound like a total cheese-ball here, but this song is perfect for those times you’re cruising down an empty motorway at night, with just the light of the stereo and the slow orange pulses of street light for company.
Beginning with a lonely sounding piano and building into an atmospheric pop jam that warms your heart like a sun ray, I think Night Works might have out Metronomied Metronomy here... 4/5

Dingus Khan – Made a List
Giant Hay Stacks
Dingus Khan - "Made a List" by 520blogg
I love making lists me. From shopping lists to death lists, even if I don’t end up doing any of the stuff on it, just writing a loose collection of aims gives me that warm feeling of achievement even if my follow through is sadly lacking.
The only lists I don’t like is those lists 21 year old men make of all the girls they’ve slept with – it makes me feel inadequate. That’s the reason I can’t really get behind Dingus Khan’s new one ‘Made a List’, even though I really dig the Girls meets Blur vibe it’s got going on. Sorry. 3/5

FOE – Deep Water Heartbreaker
Sonorama
Deep Water Heartbreaker by FOE
I honestly don’t know what to make of this one. From the pictures I’d seen of her, I’d had FOE down as some British version of Lana Del Rey or Ladytron, so I was quite taken aback to find out that ‘Deep Water Heartbreaker’ sounds more like a mash-up of Lily Allen and Placebo. It’s definitely brave, but it doesn’t really work.
The b-side sounds a bit like Holly Golightly doing a Joe Strummer impression on a Nick Cave song, so she get some points for that. 3/5
