Porcelain Raft Singles Club
Porcelain Raft – Drifting in and Out

Secretly Canadian

Porcelain Raft - Drifting In And Out by EDPMC Vincent

I put this tune on and all I could think of was being one of the characters in the My Little Pony intro and sliding down a rainbow into a big fluffy cloud. So I watched said clip on Youtube with this song playing, and it actually synchs up pretty well in a sort of Pink Floyd/Wizard of Oz way. It's slow, hazy candy-coloured europhoria and I love it.

Sadly, I think Porcelain Raft is from Rome so I doubt he's heard of My Little Pony, although it does sound like he's heard of heroin. 4/5

Rumer – PF Sloan
Atlantic

P.F. Sloan by Rumer

"No no no no, don't sing this song. It belongs to PF Sloan" go the lyrics to this tribute to American songwriter PF Sloan. It sounds quite 60s, like the video should be halcyon and featuring old Woodstock footage. I say the Mamas and the Papas, or The Carpenters - which makes perfect sense when you realize that PF Stone was infact responsible for the 'California Dreaming' guitar riff.

Halcyon hippie tones aside, it also suffers from being a bit like Tenacious D - Tribute. It's nice. But not earth-moving. 3/5

This Many Boyfriends – How Is This Even A Job?
Angular Records Co.

This Many Boyfriends - How Is This Even A Job? by Angular Recording Co

This Many Boyfriends sure do wear their influences on their sleeve. To add to their crappy band name (taken from a Beat Happening song), they have a pedestrian B side to add to their credits.

The single it accompanies is ‘(I Should be a) Communist’ which sounds like an ode to The Smiths and ‘How Is This Even a Job’ is a ditty that starts off promising Kings of Leon but delivers Arctic Monkeys in their early days being supported by Millburn (remember them?) which isn't a bad thing except you've definitely heard this all before. 3/5

We Are Augustines – Juarez
EMI

We Are Augustines - Juarez by fiznas

Pretty pain- by-numbers indie rock this one. Sounding like ‘Joshua Tree’ era U2 meeting ‘Born in the USA’ period Bruce Springsteen, We Are Augustines are so middle of the road, they should probably consider renaming themselves ‘Central Reservation’ and be done with it.

That said, ‘Juarez’ would probably sound good on an over earnest beer advert, so it at least gets a points for having some commercial chops. 2/5

The Wanted – Chasing the Sun
Island/Def Jam

The Wanted - Chasing The Sun by Ken Tung

Hats off to the music industry. The pop-machine has finally found a way of selling the same song 100 times to the X-Factor watching public without them even noticing that they're being conned. We get this same bit of trance-pop each week recycled under a different name, from The Saturdays, to Tulisa, Rhianna, Jessie J, and now The Wanted. It's as far removed from actual music as could be, it's a business based solely and unashamedly on PR, but as long as it keeps peddling nonsense to halfwits and leaves proper music to proper music fans, I couldn't care less.

They know I'm not going to review this seriously as a journalist, and do they care? Of course not, they know it'll still sell, and simply for being so brazen about it I wish them all the best. I give this a bazillion out of 5. 0/5
