The oldies are showing us how it's done. Again...

Prince - Breakfast Can Wait
Purple Rain
You’ve got to love Prince. I don’t know how close reality is to fantasy with him, but in this song he’s basically saying that rather than getting up and making eggs and toast for his lady, he’s going to get it on, simultaneously missing breakfast and making her late for work. Who couldn’t agree with that sentiment?
There’s a pretty odd bit where Donald Duck adds some vocal flares at the end, but this is a solid gold, smooth as satin 5 out of 5. 5/5

Doldrums/Black Dice - There She Is
Souterrain Transmission
This remix really doesn’t let up for a second. Right off the bat there’s a churning, almost atonal pattern of whining synths and acerbic drum loops that make it a hard pill to swallow. As harsh a listen as it is, there’s something at the core of this track that keeps bringing me back for extra helpings, I just can't figure out what.
If wonky synths and beats that border on industrial are your thing then this remix will be like manna from heaven. Personally I can’t decide whether I love or hate it, which is as good a reason as any to give something a 4 out of 5. 4/5

The Strokes - One Way Trigger

The Strokes - One Way Trigger by The Strokes
This is a real fire and ice record. Let’s start with the bad, shall we? Well, the synth line is pretty annoying, Julian Casablancas’ falsetto bits sound a bit like fingers down a blackboard and guitar solo is pretty far south of inspiring.
However, despite it’s faults I just can’t bring myself to hate ‘One Way Trigger’. At least they're trying new things; I mean how boring would it be if they kept making ‘Hard to Explain’ again and again, forever and ever? 3/5

Rhye - Open
Innovative Leisure
This song is easy like Sunday morning and it's kind of hard to believe the video isn't a life insurance ad (apparently it's a prequel to 'The Fall'). It's all smooth and spooky, quite unadulterated and miraculously not as boring as it could be. Almost hypnotic. If you like Sufjan Stevens, you'll probably like this. 3/5

Rita Ora - Radioactive
Roc Music
Wow, what a truly awful song. It's like being drowned in a bath of WKD with a mouthful of candy floss while having a bag of skittles shoved up your behind. So relentless and sugary sweet it's actually disorientating at times.
I'd be quite happy if music piracy led to the complete collapse of the music industry if it meant I never had to hear this again. Jay Z should be ashamed of himself for releasing it on his label. 0/5
