Guided By Voices – Keep it in Motion
Fire Records
Guided by Voices - Keep It In Motion by FIRE RECORDS
Honestly it’s hard to explain why this song rules so much. When you break it down, it shouldn’t; comprising of a delicately strummed acoustic guitar, a fairly simple, slightly ’80s sounding drum pattern and an interweaving string part, 'Keep it in Motion' doesn’t really do anything or go anywhere.
However, somewhere in between Pollard’s repeated refrain something weird happens and a big stupid grin spreads over my face. It’s like the musical equivalent of licking toads – simply brilliant. 4.8/5

Reptile Youth – Speeddance
HFN Music
If, like me, you’ve ever wondered what The Contortionists would of sounded like if they’d come from Berlin’s gay electro scene rather than the warehouses and dive club of 70s New York, then may I direct your attention to Reptile Youth. A bunch of guys from Copehagen, they’re first single ‘Speeddance’ manages to sound like Black Devil Disco Club, The Rapture and Visage all at the same time, without completely sucking.
I know I shouldn’t like this, but I somehow really do. 4/5

Zoo Zero – Green Apples
S/R
I don’t know what has happened to Stoke Newington recently. Maybe it’s been hit by cosmic rays, maybe house prices have dropped, but all of a sudden, what was once a quiet North London suburb has suddenly started throwing out one amazing band after another. First there was Fanzine, then there was Old Forest and now there’s Zoo Zero.
A self released opus, ‘Green Apples’ shows us why fusing together Cap ‘n’ Jazz and Good Books in a really good idea. 4/5

Los Campesinos! – Songs About Your Girlfriend
Wichita Recordings
Los Campesinos! - Songs About Your Girlfriend by Wichita Recordings
This is just the sort of twee, indie-pop which goes perfectly with feelings of teenage awkwardness. The chorus is catchy and laden with enough drums to get people jumping up and down and throwing stale beer around or whatever it is they do, and it does have an energy about it, I'm just not sure its one you can enjoy past the age of 20.
And another thing – you probably shouldn't brag about stealing someone's girlfriend when in reality you'd probably get bashed up by The Inbetweeners. 3/5
Madonna feat. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj – Give Me All Your Luvin'

Madonna (feat. Nicki Minaj & M.I.A.) - Give Me All Your Luvin' by Interscope Records
Wow, a feminist critique on this video would be epic. Not only has Madonna managed to cajole two hugely successful solo artists into becoming little more than her back-up singers in this sycophantic ode to nothingness and banality; she's got them to literally dress as cheerleaders and wave golden pom poms before she scores a touchdown with a baby.
This is something to do with the American tradition of the superbowl, I gather. But it doesn't distract from how indistinct this song is. I mean you can tell it's Madonna and Nicki Minaj sounds predictably aggressive about something at some point but M.I.A is completely swallowed in this mess. Girl power fail. 2/5
