Sleigh Bells - Comeback Kid
Mom & Pop

Comeback Kid by Sleigh Bells

Cool, edgy and (*afix any other contemporary buzz words you can think of which could apply to a noise-pop duo from Brooklyn as awesome as Sleigh Bells). Their first album 'Treats' had us in pieces. And now their supposedly poppier follow up is rocking our tiny worlds.

It's got a sugar-sweet-coolness courtesy of singer Alexis Krauss's pop background, and blown-out drum beats which smack of Derek Miller's post-hardcore past. It's raging with energy, while winking at us coquettishly from across the yard. Superb. 5/5

Virals – Magic Happens
Sexbeat

Virals - Magic Happens by Sexbeat London

On days like today, when it feels like the clock got to 7:30 AM and then just stopped, the summer can feel more like 60 years away than the 3 months it actually is. Luckily, around this time of year, someone in the indie scene always drops one of their sunshine bangers a little bit early, offering a brief glimpse of  the hot weather that's to come.

2012 and it’s Virals who are providing the warmth with ‘Magic Happens’.  Basically it’s Lovvers/Murder of Rosa Luxemborg front-man Sean Hencher playing all the instruments and singing all the words, and it sounds like Pavement meeting some seriously laid back Californian psychedelia.  I don’t know about you, but it really makes me want to get the BBQ out... 4.6/5

Trolley - Snatcha Subtext EP
Dub Police

Trolley Snatcha SubText EP DP061 by Dub Police

This EP is quality all the way through. 'Nasty Shit' is a huge burning lazer of a tune. It's got mega dubstep rhythms with glitch hop, lazer bass sensibilities. 'Giving Up' has an almost soulful vibe which is then completely smashed to bits by the bass.

'The Jungle', is confusingly, not jungle at all but an electro house belter. And of course the anthem 'Make My World' is pure, glitching bass weight. This EP showcases the rinsing, multifarious talents of the Trolley Snatcha and will veritably pulverize any dancefloor. 4.2/5

Bon Iver - Towers
4AD

If I put headphones on one of those useless kids from the Haribo adverts, played him Fleet Foxes and told him to sing along, Bon Iver's Towers is what he would come out with.

The fans say it's eerie and beautiful and stuff but it's also synth-tinged, boring soft rock that sounds like it can't be arsed until about two minutes in when someone reminds the drummer that he's there for a reason. Still, it's hard to be mad at this inoffensive track for too long. 3/5

EJ - Mama, I'm Gonna Sing
Sony

EJ - Mama, I'm Gonna Sing by PurplePR

The pop industry can't even be bothered to make music any more, but I suppose who needs music when you can just knock up an 'edgy' video, stick the singer on TV and PR the life out of everything. “F**k the backing track we don't need one, just make sure you can see the logo on her trainers.” It's not all doom and gloom though, Jamie Jones has created a beast of a remix from it, my suggestion is just head straight to that.

Sebastian Horsley once said, “the motivation for every artist is 'look at me Mum!'” I suppose if you turned that concept into a two minute half-arsed pop song it might sound something like this. My advice is put a bit more effort in and she might take notice.  1/5
