A smörgåsbord of theare, a breeding ground for ideas, don't miss this month's Sunday Surgery.

It's regular but it's rare
MSFT's Sunday Surgery is one of those rare theatre events that can be both ephemeral and lingering. The event itself takes place on the last Sunday of every month so once you get hooked you're guaranteed a monthly dose, but what you see there is unique. Directors, actors and writers work together on an existing script and perform it at the end of the session. The performance is filmed and photographed so there's a lasting record that can be worked on further.
It gets them juices flowing
This event is nothing short of a breeding ground of ideas. Not only do stories germinate like crazy, but different acting and directing techniques are also tried out. It's an opportunity for actors and directors to try new ways of bringing a script to the stage and for the writer to see how theatremakers engage with the text.
Go get galvanised
Not only will Sunday Surgery get your creative juices flowing but this workshop will kick you up the arse. Seeing people with a serious passion for theatre working practically on projects that could easily have stayed hidden in the nether regions of notebooks will very likely make you want to get moving on whatever idea you have floating around. It's also a great way to weed out ones that won't work.
This is your heads-up
Stick motivated directors, actors and writers in a room and you've got one of the best places to find tomorrow's hits. Among the smörgåsbord of theatre presented at a Sunday Surgery there'll undoubtedly be a seedling of a future win. Be it a stand-out writer, director, actor, script or theme, what emerges from this event will be a strong indication of the direction theatre is taking.
Everyone's welcome
Theatre is snooty as hell sometimes, but Sunday Surgery is open to everyone. It showcases promising collaborations, and MSFT has a particular interest in work from dyslexic playwrights. This month's featured writer is Matthew Scurfield with I Could be Anyone, based on the experiences of growing up dyslexic before there was even a word for it,
Sunday Surgery takes place at The Others this Sunday 29th August from 3.15 to 7.30. Tickets are £5.
August's featured writer is Charlotte Coates with her play The Death of Norman Tortilla.
