Beowulf, Wound Man and Chaucer: Editor's Choice - Theatre

02 December, 2011
by: Naima Khan

Every Friday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week ahead. Naima Khan selects her top three plays

From 8th December

The Adventures of Wound Man and Shirley @ BAC
Chris Goode brings his illustrated one man show to Battersea. A boy called Shirley meets a creation  inspired by medieval anatomy books, a man who calls himself a “freelance social interventionist". Mad but delightfully so.

From 9th December

Beowulf The Panto! @ Rosemary Branch Theatre
Charles Court Opera presents Ancient Anglo-Saxon literature at it's best. Beowulf, Grendel, Wiglaf and King Hrothgar have apparently been begging to be put into a pantomime, so of course the Rosemary are happy to stage this scholarly silliness.

From 7th December
The Canterbury Tales @ Southwark Playhouse
Southwark Playhouse is fittingly transformed into a tavern for immersive storytelling à la Chaucer in this warm, poetic Christmas retelling.
