Is a hip hop revolution hitting the West End?
From March 11th-28th Sadler's Wells showcases the staggering talents of 12 international street dancers guided by globally acclaimed choreographers including Anthony Van Laast and Mike Song.
We've little to thank reality TV for but ITV's Britain's Got Talent and BBC1's So You Think You Can Dance can certainly claim credit for introducing the wider population to an inspiring meld of '80s funk and US hip hop with a big ol' British stamp on it. Blaze is the West End's first taste of street dance this year and we're certainly hoping to see more.
After Zoo Nation's Into The Hoods and The Pied Piper by Blue Boy Entertainment, Theatreland too has welcomed this mini hip-hop revolution attracting the likes of dancers Tommy Frazen and Lizzie Gough (So You Think You Can Dance) and West End choreographer Anthony Van Laast (Mamma Mia, Sister Act). Blaze is set to demonstrate a successful blend of classic musical direction and polished urban dance that maintains a raw, comic edge.
Rarely will you find a description of street dance of this calibre that does it justice; the stunning talents of the performers in Blaze need to be seen.
Blaze runs at Peacock Theatre from 11th to 28th March
