Davd Greig's new play explores the ins and outs of a ravaged Scotland after Macbeth and how its new English King will put it back together.

Acclaimed playwright David Greig has come up with a brilliant premise through which to explore the righting of a world wronged by brutal war and conflict. An English army has swept mercilessly into Scotland, killed Macbeth and taken his throne.
But the new king has a task far bigger than himself: he's trying to tame his own guerilla army, learn the customs and politics of his new lands and heal the open wounds left by Macbeth and worsened by himself. Drawn to his predecessor's widow in search of someone to share his burden, he embarks on a volatile affair. Still, earnest is the king who attempts to restore peace to his ravaged land.
This is set to be an epic play by a skilled and learned playwright. Unafraid to tackle conflict and its consquences, Greig's 2007 play Damascus has violence in Syria as a backdrop. His plays are known for being intellectually demanding. You can appreciate them at face value, as a story from his mind brought to life on stage, but appreciate the different layers and you'll find political allegory, complex characters and no doubt the essence of an isolated leader.
Greig's less political Edinburgh Fringe hit Midsummer (A play with music) is currently playing at Soho Theatre.
