Volatile love with Sadie Frost and Carl Barat.

Starring Carl Barât of The Libertines and Sadie Frost of relationship with Jude Law fame, Fool For Love comes to Riverside Studios next week. Written by the multi-talented, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, actor and director Sam Shepard, Fool For Love allows us a telling glimpse into the harsh and beautiful relationship between May and Eddie.

At the best of times, they're intricately linked to one another, at the worst, they suffocate each other. Leading the audience through the varied pace and volatility of his characters' complex relationship, Shepard taps into the notion of our memories and interpretations of events. Eddie wants things to continue but May feels a growing sense of independence and a need to escape the past. Throw in their somewhat murky connection to each other and things get complicated.

There are rare occasions when the perfect director meets the perfect play and here's an instance of just of those blue moons. The play is produced by Love & Madness, who are known for rather liking their volatile romances. With director Neil Sheppeck at its helm, renowned for his shocking romantic dramas (Sweetness 2002), he couldn't be a better matched to this play.

There'll be fights, romance, the untangling of a wickedly woven web. Plus, Frost is guaranteed to knee Barat in the groin at least once. Expect sharp dialogue, a spooky but insightful narrator as well as some pretty high drama from these two unpredictable, highly entertaining characters.

Fool For Love runs at Riverside Studios from 26.01.10 to 21.03.10
