Pub dwelling, unpretentious live music from a band with a few issues.

The ultimate theatre show is one that feels like it can’t be recreated. A unique experience shared with few others. Improv is one way to achieve it as is the transformation of a venue into something altogether unexpected. In an impressively simple way, this is what Cartoon de Salvo do with their site-specific show Pub Rock. They create what one might call ‘intimate epics’ and they are unforgettable.

They had a huge success on their hands with the totally improvised Hard Hearted Hannah back in 2008 and now they’re returning to the Lyric Hammersmith with Pub Rock. Well almost, the show takes place at The Hop Poles pub just over the road from the theatre and it’s at the drinkery that the “band”, One Tricky Pony rock out and break down revealing much more of a back-story than you will have anticipated.

What we like about the Salvos is the focus they give the audience. The interaction and acknowledgment of the fact that the punters are the whole reason for putting on the show as well as the adventure of the slightly wild irregular performance is the reason these intimate musical comedy sessions are a must-see.

Pub Rock runs at Lyric Hammersmith from 03.02.10 until 20.02.10
