Puppets, Musicals and plain craziness - Editor's Choice: Theatre

by: Naima Khan

Every Friday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week ahead. Naima Khan selects her top three plays.

From 6th September
Woyceck on the Highveld @ The Barbican
Handspring Puppet Company transports Büchner’s Woyzeck to South Africa of the 1950s where, as a Johannesburg immigrant, Woyzeck struggles to keep his head above water.

From 7th September

External @ Soho Theatre
A show that explores what it is to respond. Playing with intimacy, distance and the notion of one-to-one theatre, GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN present a short, sharp piece of theatre on authenticity and orginality. Click here for a wee preview

All Week
Ragtime @ Landor Theatre
A musical look at three groups of Americans in New York. The story, which features appearances  from the likes of Houdini and Henry Ford, follows a Harlem musician,  the matriarch of a WASP family and Jewish immigrants. It should be brilliantly ludicrous.
