venue Tate Modern Thursday, 21 August
This is one of the best galleries in London and I think it's unique curation contributes to this. Finally - a group of museum directors and curators who have realise you don't NEED to group things according to the year they were made.
venue Apollo Victoria Theatre Thursday, 21 August
I saw Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre and, because I was trying to save money, I had bought the cheapest seats available. It was listed as a partially obstructed view and I was a bit nervous as in some theatres, this means you can't even see the stage. The Apollo Victoria was the first theatre where I felt my £10 ticket was worth as much as the £75 tickets. I was in the third row and "obstructed" meant that when the actors were up against the wings stage left, I couldn't see all of them. Absolutely brilliant. No bad seat, beautiful theatre and easy to get to.
artist Mika Thursday, 21 August
My friend sent me Lollipop a little over a year ago and I thought it was the most ridiculous song I have ever heard. "Who is this strange man who sings in falsetto?" I thought to myself. "How could he ever become popular?" To my surprise, I continued to hear his name amongst the knowledgeable pop music circle (i.e. my little sister) and finally listened to the whole album Life in Cartoon Motion. Only then did I realise that his music works as part of a package. No one song stands alone but the album overall is a sugary, pop-y package of music goodness. Careful with Mika, though. Too much in one go and you might get a cavity.
artist Girls Aloud Monday, 11 August
Girls Aloud are so fun! I also missed their London show, Meg, but I know they'll be back in London soon! Their best song is Love Machine for sure, but all of their music is so good... I can't wait for the new album :D.
event The Chemical Brothers Wednesday, 06 August
I saw them at Glastonbury and they were so ace, I can't wait for this concert! It's going to be an absolutely brilliant show.
artist Lenny Kravitz Wednesday, 06 August
Lenny Kravitz has always been one of my favourite artists and is such an inspiration to me. When I found out he'd be playing on tour here in London I was so excited and will be the first one through the door to seem him play. 'Is It Time For A Revolution?' is a great album and I hope he plays a lot of his new songs as well as the classics. Can't wait for the show!
artist Counting Crows Wednesday, 06 August
The Counting Crows are consistently one of the best alt-rock bands in the world and produce album after album of wonderful music. I was lucky enough to see them at the 02 Wireless festival in London and in addition to being such talented musicians, they put on an ace show as well. I hope they will be touring through the UK again soon!
