Rabid Festival Preview

This Saturday the first edition of Rabid, dubbed 'London's winter techno festival', takes place at SEOne, spacious and labyrinthine venue under the arches at London Bridge.

It may not be a festival in the true sense of the word, but with a line-up rivalling that of many summer all-dayers, one can excuse the misnomer. Indeed, Rabid promises five separate rooms of music (hosted by DJ Mag, Lost Souls and Ketoloco, among others) and twelve straight hours of quality tech beats. It would be an aural overload if it wasn't for the diversity of the acts roped in for the night.

Headlining is Umek, the coolest thing to come out of Slovenia since, erm... You get the point. He was recently ranked #39 on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJ Poll. His sets have been widely praised, awarding him a status as one of techno's big boys – no small feat considering he was pretty much underground only a few years ago.

Other significant headliners include Berlin's D.I.M., an outfit whose techno has a noisier, more electro edge, Leipzig's Matthias Tanzmann, who brings his upbeat tech-house to London as part of a larger worldwide tour, and the Paris-based Paul Ritch, whose acclaimed live sets tend towards a more minimal sound. Berlin's Silversurfer (of Kiki & Silversurfer fame), Bristol duo Deepgroove, M_nus darlings Ambivalent and Fabrizio Maurizi, Mobilee's Martin Czubala and Kompakt's André Kraml are also on the bill.

Meanwhile, those who want a jumpier, more uniquely London flavour can catch 'batty bass' queen Hannah Holland with sidekick Mikki Most in the Trailer Trash room or electro dons Cormac, Peter Pixzel and Jacob Husley in the WetYourSelf room. Kubicle resident FB Julian is also onboard.

All in all, it doesn't look as if there will be a dull moment all night. Tempted yet? You can get tickets here
