Renaissance Launches at Cable

Renaissance return in a big way for the first time since their 12 year residency at The Cross. Nuria Haering reports.

This Saturday, house extravaganza Renaissance launches what is sure to be a vibrant residency at London Bridge hotspot Cable. Featured on the night are acclaimed Brazilian export Gui Boratto, house duo Audiofly, UK veteran Ewan Pearson, East London fixture Hector, and Get Physical recruit Heidi. For more than 15 years, the Nottingham brand has been a purveyor of quality sounds both in the UK and abroad, with residencies across continental Europe, Ibiza and South America. Re-establishing one in London has been long overdue!

With previous host The Cross now sadly non-existent, the night's promoters have decided on South London's latest club-under-the-arches Cable as the perfect venue for a monthly party. The increased capacity will allow for more international and varied line-ups while still retaining a familiar and inclusive atmosphere.

Aside from a chance to woo London, elusive headliner Boratto has another reason for delivering a massive set: celebrating the release of his two-disc Renaissance mix compilation. The DJ/producer made a big splash in 2007 with a studio album released on the trendy Kompakt label (a second effort followed in 2009). His sound bridges the gap between minimal tech beats and colourful house sounds – it's at once restrained and melodic, not dissimilar to Deadmau5. It's safe to say his set will be the highlight of the night.

We're also looking forward to the multi-faceted Ewan Pearson. Once a Fabric regular, the avid remixer and producer has since settled in Berlin (naturally) and performs almost exclusively in continental Europe. At this one-off appearance you can bet on a slightly retro, bass-driven sound (akin to that other Fabric favourite, Ivan Smagghe).

Pearson's dark vibes will be nicely complemented by the uplifting house of London-based duo Audiofly. Former Space Ibiza residents Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporita will keep the dance floor busy with soulful surges and upbeat melodies. Meanwhile, up-and-comers Hector and Heidi will blast some eclectic tech-house – these are two talents worth watching out for in 2010.

Renaissance has a big reputation to live up to and there's no way this launch will disappoint. For those wanting a middle ground between mega-clubs like Fabric and Ministry of Sound, Renaissance at Cable is just the ticket.
