Fed up of the usual boring New Year's Eve parties? Check out our pick of London's weird and wonderful NYE celebrations this year.

Polish your medals and curl your best victory rolls for the Blitz Party's annual NYE bash. As always, expect live swing, DJs rocking vintage vinyl, 1940s cabaret and a good old blitz spirit. The party takes place in an old East End air raid shelter, which means if the world actually does end in 2012 this is probably your safest bet.
This event doesn't so much kiss 2011 goodbye as tie it up, gag it and give it a good seeing to. If that sounds like your idea of a party, get yourself to London's finest fetish ball, with burlesque performance, a "couple's playroom", a dungeon boudoir and plenty more unspeakable activities to welcome in the new year.
The Big Shed Inch Presents....The Spirit of New Orleans
If there's one thing New Orleans knows how to do it's party. It's also pretty famous for voodoo and black magic, which could make this New Year's Eve party pretty interesting if they decide to go down the chicken blood route. Either way, DJ Format behind the decks bringing the Mardi Gras spirit should make this a cracking way to see in 2012.
New Year's Eve Tarantino Party
20 years after Reservoir Dogs was released, Quentin Tarantino can finally sleep easy at night knowing there's a New Year's Eve party in Putney in his honour. But seriously, you're not a cult movie director until you have your own themed party, and now QT can add himself to the list of Waters, Lynch, Kubrick with this fancy dress spectacular. Five dollar shakes, Big Kahuna burgers, who knows, maybe even a Jack Rabbit Slim's twist contest.
Black Cotton New Year's Eve Ball
The Black Cotton Club is a relation of the Lady Luck Club and part of a clutch of vintage nights hosted by vinyl connoisseurs El Nino and Lady Kamikaze. Black Cotton focuses on the wild roots sound from the 20s to the 40s - jazz, bop, glamour and swing. Live bands and burlesque acts do their thing from midnight. Do dress up or you'll feel silly.
The Old Queen's Head love a good NYE knees up, and there's always a pretty cool fancy dress theme to boot. Last year it was the blitz, and this time round it's retro toys and games. Super Mario, Trolls, Street Fighter characters, Subbuteo players, the list goes on, get up into your parents' loft and get inspired! Hours of “they don't make em like that any more” fun.
The enigmatic Viktor Wynd and his Last Tuesday Society return with the deliciously macabre Animal Party. Those familiar with the society's taste for the eccentric will know what to expect - forget Animals of Farthing Wood, we expect this'll be a menagerie of earthly beasts, probably something similar to the Harvest Festival in the Wicker Man.
