A small protest has taken place in Hoxton to save the Foundry from demolition.

Protesters have congregated this morning outside the Foundry in Hoxton in a bid to protect it from being demolished. The site where the one-time art gallery and bar currently stands has been chosen as the plot for a new 18-storey art'otel, aka an 'art-themed hotel'.
Having been redundant since May, the building had been usurped by squatters who were warned last week of the impending demolition work due to start today. In retaliation the squatters instantly went about rallying the troops for this morning's protest. The numbers have reached a few hundred so far and rumour has it that the police are preparing to enter the building and evict the squatters.
The squatters and protesters stand little chance in the face of such legal authority but when the planned hotel is to be erected in the shape of a giant flip-top bin, maybe it's an aesthetically valid protest fought on behalf of all Londoners. Then again it will most likely just end up in the dustbin of minor democratic protests along with all the others.
