London Fashion Week

Read Lauren's preview of London Fashion Week 2010.

This year London Fashion Week celebrates its 25th anniversary, and the designers showing  are certainly befitting of such an occasion. Between the 18th and the 23rd of September, ethereally beautiful and exquisitely dressed young women will float down the catwalks at prestigious locations across the city. Behemoths of British fashion heritage including Aquascutum and Burberry will reveal their spring/summer 2010 ready-to-wear collections alongside our edgiest young designers like Henry Holland and Christopher Kane.

This bi-annual display of up-and-coming trends kicks off next Friday with the launch of the LFW exhibition at Somerset House, and catwalks from the fabulous milliners Headonism and sumptuous craftsman Eun Jeong. Moving through the weekend highlights will include fashionistas’ favourites PPQ  and Danielle Scutt on Saturday, and a sprinkling of anarchy from former punk goddess Vivienne Westwood on Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday will titillate the taste buds of the fashion-forward, with the Fashion Fringe show at Covent Garden on the 21st, and Fashion East at the Old Truman Brewery on the 22nd. Both initiatives seek to discover and nurture the most exciting and cutting edge design talent in the UK, and always pinpoint new fashion trends when they're still apples in the eye. Wednesday is a rather more masculine affair, as the menswear designers step up. At an undisclosed venue on sartorial Mecca Saville Row, gorgeous gamins will don the wears of E. Tautz, the tailors of Churchill; whilst in Shoreditch, A Child of the Jago (a label created by the son of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McClaren) will display some fabulous east London irreverence with alt-chic vintage inspired pieces.

This year, then, there's a characteristic mix of old dogs (I use the term affectionately) and new tricks, rubbing shoulders in celebration of 25 years of London Fashion week. For those who are left yearning for more by this tantalizing and all-too-short fashion extravaganza, check out Fashion Exhibitions in London.
