It’s time to put down that pint, dust off those ice skates and make the best of the cold season. Yes, exercise can be a bore, but what better way to burn off a few winter pounds than gliding, or in some cases shuffling, along the ice in the country's capital? Over the winter months a host of ice rinks crop up at some of London's most historic landmarks. It's time to catch up on those picturesque views of the city (and guzzle some mulled wine while you're at it) whilst trying not to fall flat on the ice.

Natural History Museum Ice Rink

A London festive fixture, the set-up at the National History Museum includes a big rink for seasoned skaters connected by an ice bridge to a baby one for kids, plus a cafe/bar for sedentary types who want to keep warm. Visuals include a whole host of sparkly Christmas lights adorning surrounding trees.
Broadgate Arena Ice Rink

The only outdoor rink to offer Broomball sessions, Broadgate Arena is available for private hire and has around four public sessions a day. They operate a first-come-first-served policy, so there's no need to book.
Somerset House Ice Rink

A popular ice rink set within the ornate 18th century courtyard of Somerset House. Extras include a Tiffany's tuck shop, cupcakes and winter warmers from Tom Skates Lounge, and music from the Nutcracker playing as you glide. You'll have to book way in advance to secure tickets to their late-night DJ sessions.
Tower of London Ice Rink

Although you can’t see the crown jewels from the rink, this sheet of ice sparkles under the imposing Tower. One of the prettiest in the city.
Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park

A Christmas and winter-themed adventure park in the heart of town, there’s also an observational wheel, big top, German Market and family activities for all.
Canary Wharf Ice Rink

Hampton Court Ice Rink

A bit out of the way for most Londoners, but this is still a worthy day out for those wanting to see the historic landmark and have a run round the rink in beautiful surroundings.
Alexandra Palace Ice Rink

Queen's Ice Rink

This rink in Bayswater offers you the opportunity to brush up on your skating any time of the year, a popular venue that often sees the odd famous face, ooh.
Westfield Ice Rink

Hit the ice, shopping bags in hand, at this indoor ice rink filling the huge shopping centre of Westfield. Great for an all round evening of fun and some respite from the outdoor elements.
London Eye Ice Skating Rink

Skate in the shadows of one of London's top tourist attractions – yes its eye-skating time. Be sure to book as this is always a popular one.
Streatham Ice Rink

Not the most central ring for most but this rink is open all year round and offers private lessons, ice discos and birthday party sessions, all under cover.
