King of the Swingers? Skye Corewijn scratches the surface of a night filled with an electro/swing fusion promising dancing bliss.
If you are searching for a night like no other, searching, and searching and beginning to fear that your journey will never come to a close, perhaps an answer has arisen. There is a relatively new yellow brick road in town. On 17 April, The Book Club brings a fusion of electro and swing and the line-up is sure to keep you moving.
The Correspondents, made up of MC Mr Bruce and DJ/Producer Mr Chuckles, are a duo that have received an amazing response from their audiences. 1920s and 1930s have never sounded better. It is where flapper dress meets trainers, producing perfect harmony. Their fusion of hip/hop, London jazz and the old school lends a sound that is sensual and funk-filled. Your body will be lost on a dancefloor of Charleston infused moves. Scarecrow will switch straw hat for top hat, Tin Man will don coat tails and dear Dorothy will be moving and a'shaking till the sun greets the day.
Penny Metal is sure to introduce you to her fascination with all beats balkan. Eastern European and Russian tunes will fill the room, ensuring fiddling galore and a dynamism extraordinaire. If the Lion had no heart, this music would leave him in no doubt of it's existence.
Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer gives the evening a quirky and simply delicious London edge. He does it only like a gentleman can. His sweet beats will keep your head bopping while your ears attempt to catch his lyrics that come cool, calm and fast and erm...polite? The night will continue into the wee hours of the morning, and you will be kept very happy company by DJ Switch, Dj Tofu, Nic Hollywood and The Dancing Elvis.
It promises to be night full of dancing divine. Follow this little brick road and you are sure to discover a something that will make your Saturday essentially foot-tapping and full of sensual swing.
