The Mothership has landed, bringing art, music and a Pop-Up Bar.
London's Mothership Group have combined powers with the artist management platform, Central Illustration Agency, and Pirates. These forces fuse to create, apparently, Clerkenwell's very first pop-up bar and art installation project. A mouthful I know, but it's basically a temporary bar come exhibition area.
For three months, between May and August, Pop-Up Pirates features as part late-night bar, part art-installation. It's fresh, it's different and it's unique. The Mothership Group are renowned for combining elements of art and music to produce something wonderful. The dingy and definable parts of London are transformed into decadent archives of alternative imagery and sweet sounds.
Pop-Up Pirates is the result of two of London's most creative crews getting together to commandeer something different. The visual concepts range from modern, minimalist and bright to ideals slightly more traditional and upper crust. The venue provides a visual feast; letters and words of varying shapes and sizes scatter themselves on the walls and the bar. Texture is plentiful and colours creep into every nook and cranny. Take a trip to the loo and you're faced with an interactive chalk board; it invites visitors to go bananas, be it via quips, image finery or noughts and crosses. Grab a drink and loiter amidst free-standing perspex letters, or perhaps you might prefer to take a seat beside the mock printing press – whatever your preference, the grandeur of words speaks to you from every surface. It's an indoor dictionary of idioms, catchphrases and quick wit.
The sessions you can expect from The Mothership Group, Pirates and Session Noisses will pass as quickly as the summer sun, so if only out of curiosity, make sure you shake a leg and check it out.
