Easter Sunday London - 24 April 2011

Spoonfed's guide to the best events on Easter Sunday 2011.

Easter Sunday! Will you choose to spend the day hunting eggs? Or perhaps your more of the age that you will be the one hiding the eggs? Eating chocolate surely must feature. Or alternatively, allow Spoonfed to steer you in the direction of some alternative Easter fun:

Dreamboats and Petticoats @ Playhouse Theatre
A musical set to the songs of '50s legends including Roy Orbison, The Shadows, Eddie Cochran and Billy Fury. The premise is one of musical rivalry between two young guys trying to impress girls and break into the music business by writing a great song... but then they discover the girl they fancy is no slouch herself. A pretty silly affair by all accounts but with good jokes from Birds Of A Feather writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran. Oh, and a number of unforgettable tunes such as 'Let's Dance', 'Bobby's Girl', 'Runaround Sue','Great Pretender', 'C'mon Everybody' and 'Let's Twist Again'. A romantic, retro treat for fans of the wonderful 1950s.

Ghost Stories @ Duke Of York's Theatre
Be warned, this show contains moments of extreme shock and tension rendering it unsuitable for people under 16 years of age. A set of ghost stories expertly told by Jeremy Dyson, and Andy Nyman, co-creator and director of Derren Brown's television and stage shows and star of Dead Set and Severance.

Dan Wareham Plays Galaxie 500 @ XOYO
Always able to effortlessly combine the down-beat jangle pop of Guided By Voices, with the absurd lyricism of Talking Heads and the sonic landscapes of British shoegaze bands like Spacemen 3, Galaxie 500 were one of the quintessential bands of the US indie scene in the mid to late '80s. With their softly spoken lyrics and often strangely beautiful melodies they laid the groundwork for bands like REM, Pavement and Modest Mouse to make their breaks into the mainstream. Following on from an appearance at last years ATP festival and a highly subscribed show at the Garage, Dean Wareham returns to London to show off a few tracks from the sadly defunct indie pioneers in the fairly intimate surrounds of XOYO. Believe us £4.50 doesn't seem so bad when this guy is playing...

Kitsune Maison Meets Ponystep @ Heaven
Bunny ears at the ready... The brilliantly eclectic French record and fashion label Kitsune bring back their Easter Sunday special, this time with East London bloggers Ponystep. Together they throw down a shiny, energetic discotheque, with Kitsune live bands Is Tropical, housse de Racket and Logo in room one. Room two is choc-a-bloc with DJs - from Belgian high fliers Aeroplane to hypnotic dance dup Punks Jump Up. Room three is hosted by Hot boy Dancing Spot and sports Durrr resident the Lovely Jonjo.

Junk Department Warehouse Party 1 @ Secret Location
Junk throw down the first in a series of warehouse parties - continuing their trail-blazing, ask-questions later rave policy. Drawn together six years ago, the Junk family is comprised of DJs, producers, promoters, artists and ravers from Bristol and London - with some Sicilian and Eastern European spice thrown in. What unites them is the desire to put on some of the best parties in the world. April's debut features an interesting amalgamation of beat-bringers; Chicago house don DJ Sneak, French DJ and producer Shonky, rave ringleader and chief wrong 'un Tim Sheridan and king of the undead Shane Watcha. Deep and tech house DJ Craig Torrence completes the bill. This is just the main course - there will be pre and after parties to complete the Junk feast.
