Father's Day ideas and how best to show your appreciation to Papa Smurf

Fathers Day

Father's Day: Sunday 20 June 2010

Father's Day in London can be tricky. Or should we say Dad can be difficult when it comes to celebrating his paternal achievements? First there's getting him off the idea of the pub and out of doors so you can spend some quality time with the slippered codger.

Expect stubborn, unyielding and maybe a little stroppy to start off with, especially when met with “you'll enjoy yourself once you get there”. But we all know it's worth the effort when you drop him back home with a stiff smile.

London is bedecked with things to do on Father's Day and caters for everything, so step one is understanding how the old dog ticks and choose accordingly. Why give him a penknife that will immediately find its way into the Man Drawer when you can take him to a comedy show in Paddington or a jazz gig in Soho? When there's the gift of an outing or activity you're sure to win progeny points.

Father's Day falls on 20 June this year, and always remember that it's the effort that counts when it comes to Father's Day ideas. Even if you end up watching some sport, taking a stroll, listening to some music or seeing some rather good theatre, he'll appreciate it fondly. We hope.
